Talking of 'pizza or something from the chip shop' do you have any idea why they deep fry pizzas in some of the chippies in Scotland?

i am not disputing the flavor of a macintosh.  all i am saying is that i prefer a more firm apple, and gala tastes just as good.

The shiny red apple is a Gala apple.  MacIntosh apples are too mushy in texture.

Gala apples have the flavor and aroma as well as the crunch. :-*

I like pretty red apples, i must also have snow white complex, to go with my narcissistic personality disorder ;)

The Gala apples at my local fruit shop usually dont taste so yummy and juicy thats why i stick to the macintosh reds, the ones i get arent really mushy but then again i eat them straight away when theyre nice, cold and fresh.

A point of order here, folks.

Apples come from trees, not shops. When you want an apple, you should have everything ready and placed as close to the tree as possible, before you pick the apple. Freshness is everything, so buy local apples if at all possible. Besides getting a fresher product, you will support the local farmer in a more direct manner, especially if HE has a shop.

I bought some young MacIntosh apples last month and they made a much better pie (especially texture-wise) than the, also local, Granny Smith variety I had used previously. It was only my fifth apple pie, but it was my best yet!
