Do you study the Lebesgue integral and have you got up to Godel's Incompleteness Theorem yet?

We have touched on the Lebesgue integral, but Godel we haven't touched. I think we do them both next year.

The thing is that I am only really doing 2/3 of a maths degree until I reach 3rd year.

Weir's 'Lebesgue Integration and Measure' is one of my favourite maths books. I sold my copy when i was skint.
I would recommend this course if there is one - most universities teach the Riemann Integral though ( when i studied anyway).

Godel's Incompleteness is amazing; though I found logic and set-theory quite tedious to study and there are few good books in this area ( especially in mathematical logic.)

I did these in my second year - the third year was beyond me.

Yeah, we did the Riemann integral in analysis this year, albeit rather briefly. I shall add those books on my reading list, I am sure they will come in handy later years, though when they cover the stuff I doubt they will give tricky questions on it, which is a relief (and we get decent choice too!)

It's very strange - when I was studying, only Oxford, Cambridge and Warwick covered the Lebesgue Integral so it may be of no use to you exam-wise.

What is the other third of your course?

I am starting politics as a new subject, so I get to do that for the next 2 years.

I suppose being argumentative helps.
I'd still rather do sums.

Yeah, but I want a first, and doing easy modules outside of maths is the best way to get it. Plus I do enjoy the subject loads.

How is uni going?

Uni is going ok at the minute, its near exam time so I am a wee bit stressed but I am sure I will cope well enough. The real question is whether or not I can be bothered to do well, I am really struggling to motivate myself at the minute. Thankfully I don't need to do too much work to do well.

I have 5 exams (nicely spread out thankfully this year) and an essay to do. The whole lot will be over at the end of this month, so I get a really nice long summer. Its a good job that I am very good at working smart - otherwise I would be screwed.

Btw, did you see that thread I put up today with my lecturers Top Trump cards in it? Fancy guessing whose on the spectrum on there, kind of curious as to what you and others think about them...

Bowcock is probably the most hyperactive guy in the department in some respects. Absolute legend, been pretending that I have been in loads of his tutorials to get me out of doing paperwork.

If you do a certain degree course you can. My degree is combined honours in sciences, but I am allowed to take a third of my degree outside of them. In practise though, my degree is going to be mainly a maths degree with a few subjects which I took an interest in around the edges.
