The nice thing about the Pixel is that if you like Android, it's just about the most unified Android experience you can get. It's closer to what Apple does except you still have access to the file system. Also, there's none of the extra stuff that Samsung forces upon you, like an extra app store, browser, and all the rest of it.

Sounds like where I am headed. Might be a good choice for me.

Let me know of any caveats you discover along your Pixel journey.

 :autism:

Well, about the only thing I can think of so far is that this thing is huge (I bought the Pro). On the other hand, I don't mind at all - my eyesight isn't getting any better.

There are a few bugs, of course, but nothing major. And it took me a while to get used to Android 12, with gestures rather than the three buttons at the bottom, but I was able to go back to the old Android UI for those until I decided to try again.

The upsides are many, though. The camera is stunningly good for a mobile phone, just to pick one that really matters to me, and the AI is sometimes beyond belief.

The experience is very much like what I liked with the original Pixel, six (?) years ago. The hardware is far better, though. If you like Android and aren't a fan of the alternative UIs offered by Samsung and others, this really is as good as it gets right now.

Thank you for your post.

Having an intelligent person "grade" modern technology is always helpful. I want a good camera as well. I have become addicted to having a camera in my hand again. I am a suffering shutterbug, still.

Got a Roku for a recently repurposed room. Don't watch tv, but it seems impressive, and hoping husband is impressed by it enough to discuss negating cable in the future. Also threw some money at a problem. Fingers crossed.

Bought a CD - the original soundtrack for Masada, a series from 1979(?) with a stunningly good score.

Welcome back. Have considered many time wall mounting the tv over the fireplace but the livingroom is awkward and makes furniture placement difficult. The furniture would have to be sorted out first before going through the trouble of moving the cable wiring, so every time the idea comes up it gets let go. Maybe one day we will figure it out.

I ordered five replacement pieces for our dishes. Years ago I bought new dishes with my birthday money. They're basic walmart brand mainstays cheapo dishes. I got three sets so I could have service for twelve, and at the time they also were selling matching separates like serving bowls, serving platters and small dessert bowls, so I got all that stuff too. I've loved them ever since because they're really nice heavy duty stoneware, but a few pieces have been chipped or broken over the years. They stopped producing them shortly after I got them so I wasn't expecting much when searching for a set to use as replacements. I found them on ebay for even more, but I ended up ordering them from a website which sells individual pieces of replacement china, because evidentially there are people like me who cherish their cheap ass walmart dishes so much they're willing to pay stupid amounts to replace them as if they were fine china.  :lol1:
