Bought a new leather jacket to replace an old one with a hole in it.

Coffee burned a hole in it?

Not so much me, but my dear wife and her constant shopping comes up with treasures, sometimes.  She has so many funny t-shirts these days. I look at her and I have to read stuff, then I laugh.

Bought a new leather jacket to replace an old one with a hole in it.

My zipper broke during the last storm. Fugly storm!
I am still looking for a light leather jacket, like the one that gave up.

(BTW, taking it to a local tailor, I found that replacing the zipper costs more than the jacket cost me in the first place. Really? yeah!)

Must have been without me noticing. Sneaky.

If it's a jacket you like, it might be worth it anyway.

Couple of new 500ml round bottom flasks, a new condenser and vacuum takeoff adapter, plus a new thermometer of the immersion type (the other type I use being something thats shaped somewhat like a handgun, battery goes in the grip, readout on the back with a pair of lenses in recessed holes where a pistol barrel would be, the top one is for a targeting laser, and the lower one is an IR detector that gives a more or less instant readout on the back display and can be used from outside a flask or other bit of equipment. It isn't quite as accurate as an immersion thermometer or thermocouple probe, and like thermocouples takes a moment to equalize and display the correct readout but its a mighty handy tool to have.

New PH test probe.

Wish the new thermometer had been a mercury one, I prefer Hg thermometers to the alcohol-filled type I have now, since alcohols freeze at temperatures that Hg won't, since mercury metal has a damn low freezing point, below most cryogenic temperature requiring stuff I'd be doing.

Could do with going and setting up a distillation at the moment actually, christen it so to speak :D
because I need some ether and temperatures at just short of dry ice. Dry ice would have been more suitable but I can wing it with an ice-salt-calcium chloride/alcohol/antifreeze bath.
Beyond the pale. Way, way beyond the pale.

That is exactly why I still have it. I do like it. It IS leather!  Fixing old leather makes more sense than killing again just for a new jacket.

:plus: for thinking of the original owner :)

I have a leather jacket. it's a leather parka :). i was looking for something really,  really  warm for the Winter, and i went everwhere looking for a proper parka, but parkas had becomme fashionable, so they were all fashion tat that would fall to bits in five minutes, besides having the pockets in the wrong places or fake pockets and other outrages. I'd actually settled for one of those, the previous year and literally wore it to rags before the winter was halfway done.

But this year, i'd got a benefits backpayent and i was bloody determined to get a decent coat this year. It was number one priority.  i spotted this one in a leather specialist shop. It was not only a proper parka, well made with a thick fleece lining, it was a man's extra large parka, with room for several layers of jumpers underneath, besides myself.   It was love at first sight. And it  was in their sale too, which meant that my last £200 was enough to buy it. My biggest ever outlay on an item of clothing.

The only problem was the zip. I instantly spotted that it didn't have the proper thick chunky zip that any coat of mine must have, or else i get it stuck, get it warped and evventually mangle it, sometimes with self trapped inside garment. (Had to cut myself out of a jacket once) So I asked if they could change the zip, and they did, at a fraction of the cost of the jacket.

That was a few years ago, and it's still pretty much good as new, despite being worn near-constantly in half-cold weather.  I'm impressed with my own good sense in investing that money in something that turns out to be bargain (considering usage)  compared with other coats I've had.   :)  And I'm soooo glad I had that money at the right time.

most of my coats are pretty old. i think the oldest is 12 years. don't have any leather because i bought my coats during a nothing made of leather phase.

we went to the states to pick up stuff.
replacement remote for the one that vanished
rowntrees fruit pastilles from ireland. can't get them here, but could in florida.
a replacement for my melted kolinsky sable watercolor brush
expandex which will help with GF baking
gluten free food
mrs meyer radish scent dish soap and hand soap
boring stuff like clothing and paper products
and the best - a pair of shoes to replace the ones that went missing courtesy of the movers. they fit exactly the same way. they are the closest to the thing of things.

bought a textbook which vanished courtesy of the post office who claim it was "left with person" at the mailbox facility which signs for each package and logs it into their computer when they get it. they had no record of it.

hmm. looks like a mouse, calls itself a cat, it must be the GOPHER!

'bout time we had a proper gopher icon , methinks

I  might even try and find the right thread to post that suggestion in, cos i know, i know, smilies are such a superimportant thing, we have to  follow the accepted  procedure to the letter there.  Let chaos reign everwhere else, but smilies , well  smilies....ah, they are part of the chaos, they sit at the heart of the chaos, making the whole chaos thing possible, and must therefore be protected from the chaos.

I just knew there had to be some kind of rationale there  :green:
