Does insurance pick up any part of that there?

How much do wheelchairs cost these days? I have no idea if that's a bargain or somebody ripped off a cripple. :P

Is it a model that keeps you as agile as you want it to be?

>Insurance
AHAHAH.
No.

  • NHS paid £900
  • Job Centre paid £4404.something (because it was to get me back into work,(they're supposed to pay 5/7th but it wasn't the cheapest quote))
  • my employer picked up the remaining £1700.

I'll probably have to contribute an amount later, once the actual invoices start flying.

Well, it's really two things.

First off, it's this bit;

Which is a top of the range Max-Lite, titanium frame, carbon fibre wings, reinforced steel footplate (for a freewheel to clamp to), Surge LT pushrims, Spinergy Spox wheels, Marathon Plus tyres - it's almost £1k for the wheels alone - Suspension forks, doublesoft castors, every option that wasn't going to compromise the life of the chair (structural carbon fibre, for example) is on there and turned right up to the top of the range.

That was ~£3600.

Then there's the other half...

Which is a hybrid handcycle with an eWheel, which will help me up to 15mph (after which I'm on my own). That was the rest of the cost.

Bonus; Managed to get the wheels, frame accents and forks on the bike exactly the same colour, across three manufacturers.

For that price, I hope you can pull neat doughnuts :viking:

I get wheelspin at the lights if I don't lean forward if I have the power turned all the way up.

A £7000/USD$10,000 wheelchair.

When I'm overtaking bikes, oh my, yes >=]

Looks good.

Phone fucking up. So, edit.

Wonder what your torso will look like, in a few months.

No problems with things dislocating, while cycling the wheelchair?

Not actually bought yet, but just looking online for somewhere to get silver fluoride cheaply from, or failing that, means going the hard way, making the silver fluoride from silver oxide or other Ag compounds (I have AgCl to hand, as well as metallic silver, but I'd rather keep any fluorine chemistry to the bare minimum, courtesy of the tendency of so many organofluorination reagents for being both unholy toxic, and corrosive to glass as well.

What I've been wanting to try, is replacement of the bromine atom in the synthetic psychedelic 2C-B-FLY (FLY implies that the 2,5 methoxy groups that would signify a 2C-x or DOx, tied in the form of a ring, the fully aromatic (I.e benzodifuranyl) system is termed 'dragonFLY)
Got plenty 2C-B-FLY around, and both 2C-TFM and DOTFM look very interesting.

I found 2C-B-fly itself a very pleasant, if VERY sedating material. Literally had me sprawled out over my bed in a boneless heap due to the intensity of the myorelaxation.  Not sure if 2C-TFM-FLY has ever been tried in man, but going from initial trials of the brominated analog, then it should prove worth it. I'm rather enthusiastic about the chance <MAYBE, to try it.   The only snag is the general nastiness of most trifluoromethylation reagents, hydrofluoric acid (slips through the skin, starts chelating calcium as  insoluble CaF,causes massive hypocalcaemia, and very deep burns via very limited contact, And it etches glass too.

Lovely, no?

nope. Not a lovely bone in its metaphorical body, HF is the devil's own putrefied urine, and I hate working with it, no matter what guise it may occur in.
Beyond the pale. Way, way beyond the pale.

Port is a little too sweet for me!   Maybe I need to try another brand!    :apondering:

It is all pretty sweet...part in fact I believe because of the brandy they usually add to fortify it.  The tawny is a little less sweet than the ruby red that I love.

I was gifted with a huge gallon of it one year (Taylor's)...didn't really care for it at first taste...couldn't cook with it...and of course, I couldn't let it go to waste...(just think of all those poor wine deprived men and women in foreign countries).

It got a little better tasting every night...and by the end of it (a month or so later)...I was licking it off the side of the glass if I spilled it while pouring.

Yep, when you catch yourself licking the side of the glass...that's when you know you have officially passed the point of no return.

That sounds positively sinister.  What are you planning?  :hide:

Heck, I lick the side of the bottle AND the glass, so as not to waste a drop!     Every time I see Port, I think of the old PBS series "Rumpole of the Bailey" and his having a glass of Port after work.
