Just bought a double-lot of second hand hotplate-magnetic stirrers that were being sold as a pair, whilst looking for a heating mantle/stirrer.
The latter-350 watt output, max temperature 380 'C and stir speed up to 1400 RPM
The hotplate pair are second hand, but tested to be in good working order and include magnetic stirring for both, a corning model 353 and a thermolyne model 1900, both flat-topped hotplates rather than heating mantles (these are shaped like a deep bowl, various sizes according to need, the one I got is a 1 liter, and with a heating element wrapped in a sheath that snugly fits the flask, been wanting a heating mantle for ages, so, got one finally, and at not too bad a price either.
Total cost for everything, just over £228 dollars including priority shipping. Thought I'd not be able to get them, since a message came up saying 'seller doesn't ship to your country', but it turned out that was for added insurance automatically included for a few pounds extra and that I didn't ask for to begin with. Got rid of that, readded everything to my ebay cart and no problem, everything went through no problem.
My current hotplate has seen better days and a few repairs have had to be done on it, plus a hacked repair to the power supply that whilst it got it working again means I can't use only the stirring with no heat since the two power feeds are routed through the same controller. That unexpected money in my account proved just the thing. Now I can effectively retire the other hotplate of mine I have now. Its getting old, and tired, and been begging for a replacement for a while now.
Now I have two, plus a brand spanking new good quality heating mantle
