Mosh pits are fun for the violence aspect, thats about it.   That and what Cal said about being a pinball.   Every concert I have ever been to, I have been completely wasted.   That makes it a little easier to deal with.

Have you ever been to a Slayer or Deicide concert?   Some people at those types of shows are trying to hurt haha.

Most guys that say that are morons who think they can get into some "chick's" pants. Like I said morons.

Though it should be pointed out that there are some men who feel that they are not the right gender, regardless of sexual preference. Some when they change genders change preference, some do not. So the term "lesbian in a man's body", if taken totally literally does have some basis in fact. Though I doubt you'd ever have a TG/TS person using that term seriously.

I came up with the phrase when I thought I was effiminate but I knew I was still into women.  Though it turns out I'm quite masculine I just hate sports.

Not really my taste. Been to some local metal
(grudgingly), and yeah, tends to be a little rougher,
but you just have to be more aware. Part of the
problem, really - I like to be out of it, dancing.

Exactly, most pits are not about dancing at all.   It is about hurting people for some.   Like the people who walk in brandishing weapons.   The fun sort who throw M80s into the pit and such.   A little rougher include throwing punches and kicking people in the head?   That is what you should expect from a real pit, not some skanking punkrock kids bouncing around in a circle.   It isn't a real mosh pit if I walked out without a bloody nose at least.

I don't go to concerts to dance, I watch the performers.   That is why I spend less than a song's worth in the most pit usually.  I watch the guitarists' hands and the limbs of the drummer.   Stuff like that is what matters, as it effects the actual musical performance.   Dancing is for people who want to draw attention to themselves but are incapable of actually playing an instrument.   I would rather remain unseen anyways.

I wouldn't WANT to be in that kind of pit.
I've seen people hurt, but it's almost always
accidental. When someone gets out of control,
the rest (and the bouncers, sometimes) make
it pretty clear.

As to watching, I've stopped really caring too
much about that. I'm not even sure I listen all
that much. It's the transcendence of the dance
itself. But, much better than with recorded music,
as instead of playing to/with the crowd, I'm doing so
with the band. It's not as good, if they're not aware,
so I think I enjoy small venues a great deal more.

The best accidental injuries are missed stage dives usually.   I have seen some overzealous stage divers completely own themselves.
