"Och" is Swedish for "and". It's the only Swedish word with a "k" sound that's spelled with "ch". It was a book printer in Stockholm, Ignatius Meurer, who proposed it in the 1670's to separate it from "ock" which means "too/also". In Norwegian and Danish they spell it "og".
