My dad used to be an annoying dick about my brothers and I watching wrestling because it is scripted but then he would watch Roller Derby stupid scripted shit..

Roller Derby is becoming popular here and I just don't get the point of it.

One of the old cold war watchtowers, meant to warn us in case the Russians would come in their airplanes, with atomic bombs, is still there, within 5 km from where I live.

I feel safe now, remembering the lessons at primary school how to hide under white sheets, and take Iodine supplements well.

Why the white sheets?

For giving a false sense of security against radiation. 

For the hotshots, there were bunkers, but, the rest of the people wanted to be safe too. So, hiding in cupboards, under staircases, under tables, and, preferably covered under white sheets was the thing to do.

White sheets reflect light, so, they would reflect radiation too, of course.......

When you look at cold war safety regulations, lots of them is nothing more than that, bogus, to keep the majority of the people from panicking.

Wouldn't it also help keep out the fine dust from the fallout that contains Cesium and radioactive Iodine and keep you from breathing or ingesting alpha particles?  Maybe white sheets show the dust better?

I collect cold war stuff and am getting one as part of my payment on a house I am doing work on.  It has hung in a cupboard there since it was new

Once the use of bicycles was taxed. You had to ad a platelet on your bike, to show that you had paid the taxes of that year. Some people got their name hammered in the platelet, because they were stolen quite a lot. Others did not attach it to their bike, but had it on them all the time.

It wasn't big, and looked lots better than what you get nowadays from the tax department.
