Religion: apathetic, agnostic, atheist, believer?
Do you believe in a higher power?
If so what made you believe in it, what form do you think it takes, what makes you believe it takes that particular form?
If not, how do you feel about the people who do believe, whats your general attitude towards them?
Somewhere between apathetic and agnostic.
Generally I think the world we live in is just plain too fucked up to accept the Judeo-Christian view of God. I was basically raised as "spiritual but not religious" but when I was 14-15 or so I did give believing a real shot, but ultimately it was impossible for me given human nature and societal structure cos there's no way someone who loves "all his children" would be so arbitrary and cruel.
I have sometimes noticed strange coincidences in my life especially when I've done something called 'affirmations' (basically writing down "I will do such-and-such" about 10 times a day) and back when I tried to pray. But the idea that it is God or whatever is just one of a multitude of possible explanations. I've often wondered if the effects from people praying aren't in fact some sort of latent psychic emanations but again that is just one of many possible explanations (including that they are in fact just coincidences, simple as that).
I don't believe in the afterlife in any way shape or form. Mainly because I find the concept of the soul to be silly, partly because life's too short to be worrying about what happens after you die, better to focus on enjoying the time you have.
I don't really blame those who partake in religion because I can understand why it would be important emotionally for someone to have that in their lives. But even when I was trying to 'believe' and try out religion it was always very obvious that most of the stories, etc. were metaphorical and weren't to be taken literally. basically I see religion as being a system of symbols to get from Emotional State A to Emotional State B, or to create a positive social movement and there ain't nothing wrong with that. But why do people get confused and start to believe that their religion is more real than reality itself? this has always confused and scared me, that people could be so willfully ignorant
