Congratulations on your degree. You can now succumb to the dark side, and perhaps be considered for employment by Microsoft.

Yeah. I was hoping for that, IF I went through with
the PhD. Without it though, I fear I'd be stuck in something
I'd be lousy at. Might try for a tech writing job though.

Thanks all.

Have the wife (though I just can't seem to find her - kinda like
flo and his sister). Worried a lot about the rest. I'm figuring it's time
to become a hobo.

congratulations, calandale.

dunno if i'd say it was a good idea to go into teaching, though.  it's a fucking tough job, with not much in the way of thanks, and requires loads of people contact and social skills.  not saying it can't be done (i'm living proof), but it really is a strain.

Yeah, I know, I know. I just don't know how I'm
going to find a sense of duty to working for some
company though. My biggest hope is at a community
college, as an adjunct or something. Whoopee! Crap
pay, but hell, maybe some rich girl will seduce me.

i doubt it - you don't get many rich people at community colleges.

what about research?  ideal career for an aspoid.  or some sort of development?  (i know very little about pooters, so don't ask me what sort of careers there are).  get some info from your uni's careers people, too - they know the sorts of things you can use your degree for.

Research was what I was hoping for,
but unlikely to get what I want without
the doctorate. Not sure that I have the
staying power, anyhow. Development is
what I was trying to avoid, by going to
grad school. There are tons of jobs; before
I came here, I was looking for one, but didn't
find anything which wanted me enough. Problem
is, I'm a LESS capable coder by far, than when I
got out of the BS. Two years was just enough time
to lose a lot of enthusiasm.

But, something will work out. Always does.

At 10 years old the question of what do I want to be when I grow up seems exciting.
It's worse when that question keeps popping up and you still can't figure it out!
Congrats...and I hope a clear direction comes soon.

Yeah. The cool part though, is that of not growing up.

Could you apply for Ph. D. programs at some different universities?
