For some reason it seems that people would rather buy you crap that you don't need than give you money towards something you'd really love.

my sister in law always buys my wife avon or make-up.  my wife hates avon and doesn't wear make-up.  matter of fact we have had garage sales with my sister in law, where my wife put the avon out for sale.
