Well, aside from the fact I was talking to calandale, thanks. I care because - oh geez, it's complicated. Because if I quit playing runaround mind games, I'd probably meltdown and then my lack of competence and presence would cause real-world damage I could otherwise have prevented.

your real world?

btw- i think that happiness versus contentment changes once you take on the responsibility of having children.  things change, if you take your responsibilities seriously.
Misunderstood.

My fantasy world, is that better?

And to me that would be an excellent justification for not having kids any time soon.

it is just that your happiness revolves around theirs.  you move away from pursuing your own happiness and begin to pursue a content life.  it probably works that way the older (and wiser) you get anyways.

Yikes. I don't understand that. Never have. Seems too much like selling your soul. But I expect that will probably change someday.

it may change for you.
for me, it just happened.  i can never remember desiring to have children.  never held a child before i had them and thought, "oh, it would be nice to have a little guy of my own."

but now that i am here, in this position, i feel that i am in the right place.

Does it frighten you, that I find what you
say sounds like what I would have said when
younger and wiser?

Wasn't directed at you, dear. I doubt that you and I ever
thought all that alike.

I don't doubt it at all. Look at Bush. Boethius, on the other hand
was LESS successful.

apples.
oranges.

bottom line is that your thinking is flawed because you do not acknowledge others existence outside of the benefits they can provide for you.

sorry to tell you, but life is a give and take proposition.  we all die equal.  giving as much as we have taken.

1. I don't see the apples and oranges. Success is transitory.
I was probably at least as contented as you are. Perhaps
yours is more stably founded, but fortune is fickle, and has
little to do with one's philosophical leanings.

2. Indeed, this may be the case. I don't know the nature of
reality. I'm just seeking a better way, when I have the fortitude
to do so. Unfortunately, I don't have that commitment to my
ideals that I once did. I've been corrupted by age and my prior
contentment.

3. I'm not sure that I understand what you're trying to say with
the last point. Death is merely a hypothesis.
