What really annoys me about living here is that there's always someone who will steal anything that isn't nailed down- my daughter's scooter was stolen from outside the house a couple of years ago (it was even in good condition), as was a little scarecrow the kids bought for our planters (it was only worth about £2 but still someone stole it).
white trash.

the thing that annoys me is people who feel the need to spray paint their name, gang, or insignia on evey clean area of wall.

It's irritating but nothing compared to people getting beaten or raped or even killed totally unprovoked. And the "punishments" here in Europe are fucking jokes. In Sweden, the criminal is seen as a victim and is treated like a king in court. Criminals even have the right to get money for going to trials on working time...the court pays...or rather the law abiding tax payers. ::)

we lock, bolt and chain the front door.  then we set the alarm.

The weather is great and all the windows in the house are open....and I'm at work.
I've accidentaly left the garage door open when leaving for work in the past and arrived home to find everything still there.

There have been 2 burglaries in the 21 years my hood has existed.

I'm usually anal about locking doors ever since I had stalker problems, but my daughter started a new school last Thursday.  The school bus came to pick her and me up (I'm expected to ride with her on the bus every day) and my husband decided on an impulse to ride with us too.  We forgot to lock our front door and when we came home two hours later everything was fine.

When I was a kid, my dad locked our doors at bedtime.  My grandmother, who lived out in the country, locked her doors only if she was leaving to go on vacation.

Not really. If I had to choose, my other choice would be Australia.

I live in Kiwiland, by the way.

New Zealanders love:

hot pools, rugby balls, McDonald's, snapper schools, world peace, woolly fleece, Ronald and raising beasts, chilly bins, cricket wins, fast skis, golf tees, silver ferns, kauri trees, Kiwiburger, love one please. Cos we love All Blacks, thermal dacks, egg and cheese, walking tracks, beef pattie, marching girls, tomato, lettuce, paua shells, gumboots, punga shoots, floppy hats and kiwifruits, beetroot, buzzybees, moggy cats and cabbage trees, onions, kakapos, kia-oras, cheerios, jandals, sandals, ketchup, Coromandels, swandri's, butterflies, mustard, fishing flies, hokey-pokey, Maori haka, Kiwiburger, that's our tucker..

Ah, now I get you. But it means this:

You're a true New Zealander when you've tried the hokey pokey.

No. Hokey pokies and vanilla icecream. Hokey pokeys are those things in crunchie bars. I don't know what they call it in the US.
