Mine was, too. I had the same treatment with cigarettes, then later booze. I only knew one person, my Bible thumping, true Christian grandmother, who did not smoke, while I was growing up. Literallly, everyone smoked in the sixties, even the teachers. They kept ashtrays on their desks and lit up after giving the class an assignment. I wanted to be "grown-up", too. My dad sat me down and we smoked a pack of cigarettes and a cigar. I was totally green, but I was also stubborn and it didn't work. There had to be something good about it, right? Why else would everyone do it?
The booze treatment worked like a charm, though.
