Do you see using your admin powers to set up a new post count group, with a new display colour without having a vote on the name and colour of said group an abuse of admin privilages?  Please explain your answer bearing in mind your tendency to favour votes on every tiny issue in the past.

There was no longer any pretext of democracy
when I did that. I took the standard procedure,
as I understood it, by informing the powers that
be what I had done. I was certain that 'twas reversible,
AND completely harmless to the site.

You can say that there was no-longer any pretext of democracy, but you know fine well that wasn't the case- given the fact that Dunc had already said things were going back to how they were before the WC- you're just nit picking.

There was NO such democracy before the WC,
as far as I could tell. Merely the popularity contest
cum elections.

Moreover, even the elections seemed to have
been outlawed, by the vote which was taken,
which killed the WC. Thus, democratic decision making
was CLEARLY overruled, IF we were returning to the
election system.

Actually we have always had the right as members to vote on any issue, right from the start before we even had elections for staff.

As for the elections being popularity contests- isn't that how most elections are run in the real world too?  Even if we attempt to base our votes purely on perceived ability at the task, stance on certain issues, etc how we personally feel about a candidate (and/or the people they are running against) is always going to play a part in our decision who to vote for.  Were not all really part of some suprior human sub-group are we after all?

And as far as I am aware- someone may know different since I wasn't here at the time- Dunc pointed out pretty early after the WC was abolished that rather than actually being a 'despot' he wanted to site to be run how it was before the WC and that their would still be elections and that people could still vote on issues.
