I keep getting these painful little pricking sensations like something is biting me (nothing is), which is decidedly annoying.
Sitting in the same spot too long?
Nah, it feels different from pins and needles.
Is it still happening? Is there a rash?
Not right now, it comes and goes.
No rash.
That emoticon is cool.
Thank you! It's on the "Additional smileys" page, alongside this other fellow ----->
As for the pricking sensation, I think you should ask your doctor.
My doctor is expensive.
It's not happening right now, anyway.
Where are you getting these sensations? Are you taking any new medicines, like antidepressants for example?
Everywhere; most noticeably in my arms and legs.
I'm not taking any medications, new or otherwise.
I wonder if your nerves in your arms or legs may be getting pinched?
After I had my ankle surgery, my skin from my ankle down felt like it was sunburned and they told me that it had something to do with the nerves that got moved aside for the surgery. I guess they must have gotten stretched or pinched.
Could be. What could cause that? It happens under all circumstances; the one mentioned on the thread was when I was sitting down and tapping my feet as I always do.
I'm not sure what it could be in your case.
There are lots of possible causes of paresthesia, which is the medical name for unusual sensations including burning, pricking, or pins and needles sensations.
I found a
Wikipedia link to paresthesia. I think the potential causes listed are fairly accurate, although the list may be incomplete. They list such causes as irritation to the peripheral nerves caused by inflammation, panic attacks, multiple sclerosis, diabetic neuropathy, shingles, vitamin deficiency, certain medications, heavy metal poisoning, hypothyroidism, and dehydration. They don't list trauma, but that is also a potential cause which was happened in my case.
