I spent over $700 on the cat at the vet today for an abscess

My sterile dressing, which I was supposed to keep absolutely dry, is a little bit damp. I imagine the orthopedic specialist will lecture me.
But come on, it's a big roll of GAUZE around my finger, if there's a drop of water anywhere close it'll soak into the dressing!

What kind of abscess was that? And how deep in the body?

Mine used to get putrid abscesses all the time, but the vet just taught me to deal with them. I only had to make a call to get meds.

Just soaked my damn sterile dressing, just a few hours before my orthopedist appointment. It is not likely I will make it through several weeks of not washing my hands properly.
I hope there is a waterproof covering that I can wear on my finger as it heals. This "Keep the gauze dry!" requirement is not doable, not for me anyway.

Just soaked my damn sterile dressing, just a few hours before my orthopedist appointment. It is not likely I will make it through several weeks of not washing my hands properly.
I hope there is a waterproof covering that I can wear on my finger as it heals. This "Keep the gauze dry!" requirement is not doable, not for me anyway. 

It's like those stupid box directions that say 'open other end'. I mean, what the fuck difference does it matter?

*sigh* In my case I guess it's important to keep the wound dry, to prevent infection, but I don't think I'll manage it if they replace this dressing with more GAUZE.  
It's probably good that this happened though. I'm going to have to have a talk with the orthopedist and explain my difficulties.
