Not really pissed, not really happy, but a meeting of the local city council (which I generally skip, these days) has elected to set a flat rate billing for their waste water utility services and trash pick up.

Had I attended the meetings, I might know if some of this is because of the recent change-over to a trash pick-up company who specializes in recycling making back some money or if the big muckie-mucks with the huge fancy houses have gotten over on the ones who live alone in small homes.

My bill will actually go down, but there will be many people, probably lower income, whose bill will go up, since the amount of the monthly bill will no longer be tied to "usage."

This thing just fucking reeks of wrongage and I don't really know why.

because it means that people who are considerate about water use will be penalised, whilst those who are profligate get away with it. it's fucking outrageous, and makes me so angry.  if that happened here, i'd move to where it didn't, if that makes sense.  (i'm metered, cos i do everything i can to use less water).

There's no water metering here, so theoretically, I could leave a tap running 24/7 and run it through a microturbine for power.

Verizon and Comcast are whores for milking every last dollar out of my Mom upon her death. Since I didn't cancel the services for a few days, I don't know...I was kind of busy,they charged her account until the actual date I showed up and presented the Death Certificate. Seeing as how the Death Certificate had the date of death, you would think under the circumstances they could retroactively cancel, since she clearly wasn't using either service.
