Had a brief thunderstorm that lasted all of 10 minutes.  A couple of decent boomers, but, nothing worth closing the windows for!

Most of our storms have been really fast moving arctic fronts, even up to seventy something miles per hour. That kind of speed only happens when there is a huge differential, in pressure, between high pressure and low pressure fronts, meeting up.

The only thing we have really had in abundance, right here (other than the enormous amount of rainfall over short periods of time) has been record breaking numbers of lightning strikes.

The worst of the damaging wind sheer and rising water happened well south of where I am.

I have seen some amazing lightning showsZAH!! in the past few days.

I'v seen the newscasts from Indiana, pretty intense weather, actually quite typical of mid continental weather systems.  Broil or freeze and when two systems collide, all hell can break loose.
Something we rarely see in this part of the northeast.  Severe weather can happen, but, most systems do become less extreme as they come out this way.

Yeah, on my computer in my room, albeit through their bloody firewall. All because ITS are way too incompetent to manage the novel idea of keeping the networks separate, or letting us tunnel through.

That's why you can't use BitTorrent. I'd make sure to block that sort of thing if I was admin.

A good sysadmin would block that kind of thing for several reasons. For one, it would be bad for a uni network to be involved in something potentially illegal. Second, bt eats up bandwidth needed for actual work.

That too last night was miserable as we don't use AC except in the vehicles

In Maine, fans strategically placed more than do the trick.  It's only 3-4 nights a year that even fans don't get us through with some degree of comfort.

But, when we do our long road trips to NY State AC in the car is a MUST.  Last year we drove down August 1st and we got to Holyoke Mass. for lunch at the Cracker Barrel and the temp there was 100 degrees F.  When we got to Cooperstown, it was 90 and thunderstorms were rolling thru there as well as hitting Albany NY.
