partly because i'm gradually being worn down by the O Meister's constant and subtle (he thinks - hah!) suggestions, and partly because Windows is driving me potty.  and because i quite fancy telling my students i use linux, cos they'll all be terribly impressed and think i'm a geek, which is great for an old luddite bint like me. 

but mainly because i'm curious as to how it would makes things different (okay, O Man, better) for me.
