a larger degree, the religion is tied in to politics

i don't.  but this particular "discussion" has been repeated ad nauseum, all over the board, and the bigots never listen to anything (although they're about as uninformed as fuck), and there's no changing anyone's mind (on either side), and the same old arguments and ignorance are dragged out and aired, so it's just pointless and dull.

if the discussion involved more than opinions gleaned from the daily mail and ignorant hearsay (on one side), then i'd be interested in listening, to see if i could learn anything new.  apart from anything else, i've been involved in such discussions for years, decades, in fact, and it never changes, only the target group for the bigotry.

And, it almost always seems to break down
into bashers and those willing to gloss over
that there are serious problems with the islamic
fundamentalists.

Really, I think it's just a problem with people
being too tied to their faith/convictions.
Knowing that they are right. And religion

to be honest, i tried for a long time to get real political/issue based debates going, on various boards, and the level of ignorance, bigotry and sheer selfishness ended up getting me quite depressed: the fact that many, many people are complicit by being wilfully ignorant is just very disheartening.  i've been a political activist all my life, and i'm just getting tired, i expect.  i'll never stop, because it's not in my nature, but i will choose my battles, so that i can put my energies into those which have at least a smidgen of a chance that i can effect ( ) some sort of change/positive outcome.

I know. I also know that we lose members due to
NOT having enough people willing to discuss crap.
Everything falls into a spam fest, in the end. I try
and convince small groups to come, but usually
we only get people one at a time.

Just getting cranky about it. I like the flavor here,
and don't want to lose that - but would like
to draw more people.
