http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/rate/ind_inc.htmlGives some interesting comparisons
on this year's state income taxes.
'Course, that doesn't really account
for the evil payroll taxes.
Interesting spans. Some states don't
have progressive structures at all.
Kinda shocked by the places with the
highest maximum rates: Vermont, California,
Oregon ,
and Iowa.
New York is fairly low, actually.
I think they have a VERY high
payroll tax though, which really
is regressive in nature. I know
that I was paying a big percentage
overall, in that. Income tax was always
minor, in comparison - both federal
and state.
One of the few arguments in favor of
flat tax rates, is if they'd stop overtaxing
the poor for SSI and other services, then
the overall burden would be MORE fair to
the low-income wage earners.
'Course, anyone suggesting flat tax usually
doesn't mean that. They just want to move
a bit more of the burden onto the poor.
