My kids have too much homework. Something's going to break.
Aargh. We had that problem with our eldest last year. We made it clear to the teacher that he had his hands full already getting through the school day without going off on one, and had nothing left when he gets home so homework completion was likely to be occasional and patchy. He ended up doing some of his assignments during break periods at school, which seemed to work ok, thank fuck. when are they supposed to get time to be kids?
I haven't had the opportunity to sit down with the teacher, yet this year.
The problem is that many of the home assignments are required for a grade, so they MUST be done. This entire holiday weekend was spent harassing my son to concentrate on a letter writing assignment. We should have done some park time, some pool time, some kid time, some goof-off fun reading, etc, but this thing was to be graded for proper format and penmanship.
His reserves are expended at times and he has nothing left. I have seen him sit down and alphabetise his thirty spelling words in five minutes, but sometimes it takes two hours.
I don't know when they are supposed to just kick around, play and be kids or even get enough rest, if we are to have meals together and find some private mellow time.
