Why do you have so many homononymes in English? In Swedish we have very few. (Homononymes are words that sound the same way but mean something else.)

In English we use one less syllable. The language is a conglomerate language. There are often "accidental" homonyms.

Ooops. I have to blame that on the late time here, 2:15 AM. I know. It's funny, though. We have extremely few homonyms in our language. But we also pronounce words differently when we stress the syllables. For instance, "tomten" means both "the estate/ground" and "Santa Claus" in Swedish, but there are two different accents for the two words. "Tómten" means "the estate/ground" and "tómtèn" means "Santa Claus". The apostrophes aren't used in the spelling of the words, I just use them to show the difference.

No, I know children can have bipolar.  What's more, it SAYS so in the very textbook which we are reading!  It could be inferred simply by looking at the table of contents in the book!  Hence my frustration.  The other thing is that if she's in a 300-level psych course, she shouldn't be so damn astonished to find that out.
