Being a vampire is
I do not understand the "new-ish" notion/fantasy/fetish/fascination that vampires are so cool.
Why are there about twenty television shows depicting vampires?
Seriously, who even gives a "flying fuck at a rolling doughnut" (paraphrasing another member's brilliance) about the life and times of a fucking vampire?
Seriously!
Only knew of one vampire when i was growing up - and he absolutely terrified me... Dracula. Now there are so many they not scary anymore (at least my niece doesnt seem to think they are and she is only 7)
overkill
Probably right.
Over-exposure and all.
My thoughts are more toward ...
... no one is afraid to have their blood sucked out because the Hollywood promotional machine and a few others, guilty of such, have (not only over done it, but) changed the horror of having your life force taken away from you by a kind of metaphorical rape into a romantic encounter, where you decide to give up your life force in the false hope that you will fantastically be forever long lived and long loved.
It is just another step along the path of changing the perception of pure and simple (yet, horrific and PERMANENT) rape, socially acceptable by making it more of a metaphor than real life, using everyone's need for romance and just pure hope of fantasy to change the way people think.
