The smoke detector in my hallway needs new batteries, so it's chirping loudly, and I can't change the batteries myself
because I can't get the cover off. So I'll have to call the landlord tomorrow, which means...

ALL-DAY CLEAN-A-THON! 

What kind of smoke detector is it?  For mine, a Lifesaver, I have to push up and rotate the whole smoke detector clockwise about an inch until it's unhooked from the prongs on the frame that is screwed to the ceiling.

Then once it's removed, I can open the battery door on the back and replace the nine volt battery.

That sounds like mine! I thought only a thin cover was supposed to come off, but actually the whole thing comes loose!
Once I realized that (with help from parts), I was able to take it off the ceiling and remove the battery.

What I thought was allergies is actually a cold. I didn't get a sore throat though. But I do have a chesty cough. What a bummer.

I often get chest congestion. It's good to have an expectorant cough syrup!

I have to go and see the doctor on Thursday anyway so if I still have a cough by then I will ask him his advice about it. Hopefully not antibiotics.

Of course, even with an OTC cough syrup, it might be wise to ask the pharmacist about possible interactions with other meds.
