I had a friend who adopted two children after many years of infertility. She was one of the most caring parents I knew. But she said that any parent who didn't think about "killing" their child at least once was a liar.
Good lord you would have thought the world was ending the way he was carrying on. Rolling around on the floor screaming and crying that he was going to "die of boredom", all because we have to leave the house to pick up his sister from school. Then came the usual barrage of "you're so mean" lines. I see that my parents are getting their due justice. I'm sure I was twice as bad at his age. 
Although he finds that being an aspie and having an aspie mum to be hugely irritating in times like this, given that when he says he'll die of boredom, I go into logic mode and point out all the reasons that that's humanly impossible. 
When the Princess Royal pulled the die of boredom routine, I'd sit down and we'd plan her funeral. As you know we Victorian love a good showy (but in good taste) funeral. We planned the boy bands who would sing, what she'd wear, what food we'd serve, who we'd invite, what stuffed animals, etc. Prince Albert thought we were absolutely bonkers
She's an only, so we didn't have too much co-ordinating with others as far as being places, so I was able to take the time.
