Emergency
« on: February 17, 2007, 09:43:02 AM »
so i spent 10 hours in the emergency room yesterday.

my boy had a fever of 102.1.  the doctor was concerned because at that young of an age a high fever could cause meningitus.
it was awful.  everybody in the waiting room looked like they had sever viruses of their own.  i bet that i catch another cold.  i bet my son gets sicker as well.
anyways, they did all sorts of tests;  blood, mucous, chest x-rays...

we got lucky, they stopped just short of a spinal tap.

i hope he feels better soon.
Misunderstood.

I hope that he feels better soon too.  Did they figure out what caused the fever?  Did they admit him to the hospital?  Did they do an urinalysis to see if he had a UTI?  My nephew had one when he was a newborn and it nearly killed him because they did not catch it quickly enough.

Wow!
There's nothing worse to face than having a sick child. It sounds like you did all you could. I hope he's better, soon.

I found this article in eMedicine about evaluating fever in a young infant:

http://www.emedicine.com/ped/topic2698.htm

My nephew was admitted into the hospital and treated with IV Gentamicin because his UTI had gotten into his blood, so he was septicemic.

I had my daughter in the emergency room three times before she was three weeks old, but never for a fever.

Its awful when your kids are ill, especially when they're only a baby.   Hope he gets better soon, will be thinking of you all.

I had pneumonia when I was 3 weeks old, but I survived. I'm sure your beautiful little boy is strong and will be OK.  :)

Sorry to hear about Boston McJ, I too ran a very high fever when I was an infant. The doctors traced it back to something in my baby formula.

Anyways, I hope he's doing better soon.
