Well if the character is not supposed to be a crazy asshole, then jack nicholson might not be the best actor.  Jack nicholson is good for badass, and crazy.

He was not supposed to be crazy at the beginning of the movie, but he sure as hell was mentally instable from page 1 in the book.

The TV movie I saw had cheap CGI effects and Daytime Soap Opera acting.  The kubrik version has been studied and analysed for years.  I don't see the crappy TV movie on the shelves of any film school libraries.  As a fan of the book, I was really let down by that movie.

The Kubrick version had been perfect if it had been just a little more true to the book. But it's still better than the TV movie.

I find dozens of moments in movies touching.  During my little crying holidays I try to time the ride for those moments.
Movies like iron giant or beauty and the beast are touching during more of the movie than the time they aren't, but I found touching moments in movies like hell boy, and terminator 2, and a bunch of other movies that seem like they aren't about touching shit.  Actually I can be moved by... pretty much anything, not all of it is moving like bicentential man or animatrix is moving, but if something is exciting enough I will get moved by it too.

On WP I heard a lot of aspies talking about how removed from emotion they felt they were.  Personally I am the polar goddamn opposite to that.  Although an ability I have that it looks like it may be rare is I can pretty much turn it the fuck off at will.

how dare you call Steve a lesser actor!!?!?!??! he's a much better actor, he just hasn't won a stinkin oscar or ten since he is totally underappreciated. :grrr:

Jack was an actor even before that guy was born. How many movies with Jack Nicholson have you seen?  8)

The one thing I liked about the TV movie was the mentions of the hotels past and the Jack character being truer to the book in personality.  If it was the tv version Jack, in the Kubrick Movie, with the craziness of Nicholson at the end, and a fuller story, it would be perfect.
