People were calling for Alex to hand over the site a decade ago.
He's not interested in running WP and never has been, but being "WP Founder" is a focal point of his personal brand and public image so he won't let it go.
He won't be getting rid of it until he has bigger and better things to put at the top of his bio and/or resume.

Reminds me of the time he wanted me to get on the phone with him and walk him through how to talk to women (back when I was moderating WP).  He thought because I was married I must have some secret sauce he could use.  :hahaha:
