Labour has been tory-lite for ages. Libdems are essentially shy tories.

In the bubble you live in, the Overton window has shifted so far left that everything else looks conservative.

Labour are politically centre-right, and have been since Tony Blair's "Third Way" campaign that got him elected in 1997. Starmer wants a continuation of that.

They seem so stubborn to anything vaguely left wing, that they've even resorted to deliberately sabotaging Corbyn's chance of getting Labour into power at the December general election. He was never the best in terms of optics, sure, but he was trying to move Labour somewhat back to the left (even if proposed policies were socdem at best).

It's still a "softening" of position in regards to the tories. Cameron was basically a blue Tony Blair in a lot of policies (swapping war crimes with pig fucking, that is).
