Odd or Unusual words you like, but rarely get a chance to use.
« on: January 17, 2007, 12:18:58 AM »
... or even a phrase if you want.

One of my favorite words that I wish I could use more is circumlocution or if I can "invent" a verb: circumlocute, which we do here, frequently.

There are so many ... here are a few I can think of right now.

Lascivious ... I just like to say this word. It feels good to say it.

Repugnant ... I just can't think of many words that make the sound of their meaning as well, once you get past "pop".

Steatopygia ... When you find this in the dictionary, you never forget it, because it could come in handy some day.

Facetious ... it just feels good.

Meniscus ... Another word I kept for fun of being one of very few who would use it.

Jimi Hendrix: When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.

Ghandi: Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

The end result of life's daily pain and suffering, trials and failures, tears and laughter, readings and listenings is an accumulation of wisdom in its purest form.

I think that was the first word my boyfriend taught me.  He's very polysyllabic but I'm moderately polysyllabic so he didn't initially stump me on words until he used that one, though he's done it many times since.  I hate the syntax of that last sentence.

I like the word "syntax" though.

Other words I like:

Neologism (I like making them too)
Perseverate
Craptacular

I'll post more later.
it is well known that PMS Elle is evil.
I think you'd fit in a 12" or at least a 16" firework mortar
You win this thread because that's most unsettling to even think about.

Limerence: a short-lived, intense and usually unrequited love, sexual attraction, or infatuation.

These words aren't unusual, but I really like em, and I either don't get to use them enough or I just like 'em.

Ambiguous.

Fickle.

Vernacular.

More to come as I think of 'em.
And as always, these are simply my worthless opinions.
Reverence is fine, Sanctity is silly.
We're all fucked, it helps to remember that.
