I don't remember exactly when I started shopping early, but it was when the kids were fairly young. I think there's a lot of pressure on mothers during the holidays. Not only gifts, but all of the other planning and preparation for decorations, events, gatherings, meals, travel, crafts, sprinkle cookies, or whatever the season demands. Not having to think about gifts or dealing with busy stores during the month of December made all the other things less stressful and easier to enjoy. It's something I've continued since they've grown.  :dunno:

Christmas decorating is in full swing at the Salvos and some of the volunteers are already wearing Christmas shirts. I'm sticking to my black collared shirts which are part of the Salvos uniform.

No Christmas at work this year since the building is being renovated to make it earthquake proof. So most offices have moved out and people work from home now. I will miss the decorations and the food I find. But at least I won't put on a few pounds this year.

And our local radio station started playing Christmas songs before Veterans day.

There is no such thing as earthquake proof.

Wife has put the Christmas decorations up already.  This year we have half a dozen small Santas hanging from the ceiling by threads.  It looks like there has been a mass lynching.
