Life hacks thread!
« on: September 17, 2016, 03:11:57 AM »
Share the shortcuts, timesavers, and clever work-arounds that make your daily life easier!

Here's mine: I recently learned to make fried eggs on the grill at work.  I was having trouble
flipping them to cook the other side, because I kept trying to lift the entire (still mostly raw)
egg with my spatula, and the yolks kept breaking.

The secret: You don't have to lift the egg at all, you can just use the spatula to gently scoop
the white of the egg over the yolk, without moving the yolk at all!   :2thumbsup:

find a pot top with a domed lid. put that over the egg while it's cooking and both sides will cook at once. if you add half a teaspoon of water (we actually use sake), the top will cook even faster.

Mouthwash can serve as a mouth freshner, deodorant, foot soother, insect bite med.

You can also just put a bit of toothpaste on your tongue, add water and swish, mouth feels great.

That's excellent!  Unfortunately all the pot tops at work are flat!

Set a timer for a short little chunk of time, 5 minutes even, and spend that time
doing something you dread.  For 5 minutes, you can do it.  Then stop when
the timer goes off, and maybe you'll set it again.  Or maybe you won't.

But for those 5 minutes, you did something you needed to do.
That was 5 minutes of adulting, 5 minutes of success.  You can build on that!  :arrr:

My mother's tip, from decades ago:  Every day, make a to-do list of just 3 things, and do those.
Hey, it's better than making a list of 247 things, as I tend to do, and avoiding all of them.  :P

:P Maybe it's funny when you watch it once. Then, maybe I don't find it funny now because I'm in a not-so-good mood.
