Post if there's a train going by!

One thing I like about my neighborhood is that railroad tracks run through it.  I hear trains every day.

Who else here lives within the sound of trains?

I do. Our house is located next to one of the main feeds to Gothenburg.

And there is one now. A passenger train from Stockholm, I believe.

It's a comforting sound late at night.  I'll miss is if/when I move someplace where there's no nearby track.  :)

TBH, I could live without the heavier freight trains. It's not the sound, really, it's just they are so heavy that a single pair of imbalanced wheels is enough for the whole neighbourhood to shake when the train passes.

In my city, the passenger trains depart from a station downtown.  The trains in my neighborhood are all
freight trains, and I'm far enough away that they don't rattle my house.  I love the sound of the whistle.  :)

Your trains sound way cooler than ours. They make this classic awesome noise that is easily recognisable for anyone brought up with Hollywood action flicks.

I do love that classic sound, especially at night.  What do Moomin trains sound like?  :moomin:

Moomin trains sound cooler than the Swedish ones--Moomins are Finnish. The ones here are fairly nondescript and boring.

There are tracks running by our house, but the freight trains squeal like a godawful giant running fingernails down a mile-long chalkboard, for five minutes straight (I'm not kidding - continuous shriek of metal on metal) several times a night.

I like the idea of trains, but I'm not ever going to rent a place by the tracks again if I can help it. The railway companies here don't keep their cars in good enough condition. Also we're by a curve and near the yard, so the trains are usually slowing down or speeding up, which makes them seem even longer.
You'll never self-actualize the subconscious canopy of stardust with that attitude.

To my ear, Swedish sounds like German spoken with a French accent.  :dunno:

There is an awesome steam train set not too far from where we live. It's maintained by enthusiasts, as far as i know, and my son loved it more than anything else in the world when he was a kid.

What she said.
I grew up near train tracks and lived and worked near them when I lived in Northampton and was comforted by the sound.
Here it is more like traumatized by the sound. Nonetheless I have my pocket trains game (wherein the train sounds are authentic) and my n-scale and pseudo n-scale railroads.
there is no train going by right now because I am posting this. As soon as I hit post, a five minute train will pass here, stop, sound as if it's derailing, and then dash my hopes by squealing for seven instead of five minutes.
I have silicone ear plugs.
