Roadside oddities
« on: February 15, 2016, 04:44:12 PM »
It being presidents day and all me and the missus went for a little road trip to the land of the late Randy,  Rhode Island.  We like to go and see the odd local attractions today it was  the giant metal scorpion outside a scrap metal yard in Exeter

Or the Seabee in front of the Seabee museum in  Davisville,  which sadly was closed so I have to go back this summer

The architectural antique store in Newport

I want this one it's just so  WTF

And one of the steep as fuck bridge that goes to Newport

Yes these are the things we planed to go out and see on the trip,  odd places and things are what it's all about  :2thumbsup:

Any one else do this or know of any weird places in your area?

Those are good oddities

I almost never take photos of stuff, but here's a bull I half-managed to half-capture with my barely-functional camera, in Spain. It was much more impressive "irl" :I
(christ, man, I never get why pics have to be so goddamn humongous... resize-time, edit)

Another one, not really road-side, but my brother (for some reason) nagged my mom to drive around the peer, so we DID litterally hop right out of the car to photo this:
A Skjold Class stealth boat! Norwegian design ftw :M
Also, among the fastest combat ships there are, they are extremely quick! Not only that, but one of the first functioning stealth boats :M

Sorry no pic, but when I saw this, it was quite a few years back, and at the age I was I didn't have a camera phone, come to think of it, I'm not confident they existed, even years later mobiles somewhat resembled a house brick in overall shape, weight and stylish properties.

Didn't have a mobile until years after seeing this, but one day, had been out somewhere, returning by car, and what do I see in the middle of the road? a miniature tornado, roughly a meter and a half high, just sat there, spinning round in the middle of the road, looking for all the world like it had been pulled out of a loony tunes cartoon, who are now for some reason, missing their tazmanian devil.
Beyond the pale. Way, way beyond the pale.

Speaking of missed oportunities for road-side attractions, along the tram-line here - and this is years ago, but it's possibly it's still there - there is a back yard decorated with a lot of toilet bowls.
Its not visible from the road, and you'd have to enter a private yard to get near them, so they're really only visible from the tram, and I doub't a lot of photos have been taken, but for commuters using the tram, the toilet-garden is kind of famous :D

Like the boat and the bull  I also take weather photos but have not seen anything as good as a mini twister since I started carrying a camera.  I like to always have a camera of some form with me always much easier now with one on the phone which I will take anywhere but I take a regular one with me most days also but avoid taking into hazardous places.

Here is one at a sciencey store that sells minerals, gems and science toys up near where I took those today that I am sure zeg would like

It's an "old fashioned" dinosaur isn't it? Still upright, using the tail as a support.

Cool advertising image.

That bull, did it make you crave for sherry, Zegh?

Made me think of this very outdated commercial.

I can do upside down chocolate moo things!

That mini-tornado would have stopped me dumbstruck in my tracks!  :zombiefuck:

It was neat as fuckery, much too small to do any damage to anything I'd imagine.

Wish I'd been on foot rather than in a car so I could go and have had a closer, full examination.

It would have been funny as hell to have gone up close enough to piss in the tornado :mischief:

Even a small tornado can be dangerous.  I recently saw footage of a carload of people happening upon
a tornado that was barely more than a little spiral of mist, yet it was powerful enough to spray their car
with dust and grit, shattering all the car windows and showering everyone with glass fragments.  :zombiefuck:

I saw this one tornado that was strong enough to lift up a small house, and then the house landed on someone.  The girl in the house stole that persons shoes and couldn't find her way home to Kansas.....

Hang on...  I might be getting mixed up again.
