Even if the research were all there, and such medication was FDA approved, manufactured and distributed by parasitical companies to the masses via physicians and their prescription pads, this would still be a story involving the legalities of non-medical professionals producing an alternative medicine from a controlled substance.

Marijuana and medications made from that or other cannabis plants like hemp may go booming, the moment Monsanto has the patents on some plants.

I am merely surprised that a thread like this and no contribution from him. I do not think we are any the worse off for not reading the pseudo-political/pseudo-philosophical that would ensue. Just surprised.

It would be similarly surprising if we did a thread dedicated to naked women draped over motorbikes and muscle cars, and not having Scrap contribute.

  Marijuana has been decriminalized in my state.  If you have under an ounce in your possession,
   I think you pay a fine if caught, but you don't get prosecuted.  That's good to know.  Seems fair.

I can tell you a related anecdote right away
I was actually planning NOT to smoke any this time. Before, I had been so fascinated at how affordable weed/hash is in Spain, and the high quality of it at that (being first stop from Morocco, where they make it)
The reason was that I didn't want to risk any drug-smell from my clothes, as I passed through more train-toll-borders, as I planned on visiting Portugal briefly as well

HOWEVER
At a bar, having a beer with my (younger) uncle, a bunch of his ghetto friends came by, sat down, and suddenly our table was brimming with beers. Out of habit my uncle tells me that that guy (totally black smiler "=D") has weed, and I'm all "HMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!"
Try to find someone else going "HMMM" to the question of buying weed or not :'D People usually know exactly yes OR no
I decided to buy for 20 euros, I figured it would be ABOUT 2 grams - hash - used sparingly, half a week or so.

Little did I know, he wanted to impress both me and my uncle, by being superkewl, and gave me a big bag of pot. 4-5 grams. That's like... a bag the size of your hand (pot is very poofy) and it STUNK (deliciously, but still, it reeked!!!)

Immediately I begun to panic, where the hell do I hide this thing!? I can't even keep it near my clothes, or my bag, or anything
I ended up hiding the bag - inside a candy bag - rolled up and squashed underneath the air conditioning cooler tank on the balcony...

One single joint would knock me out for a night at the time, each one tasting like I was smoking salad dipped in sugar... took me 2 weeks to finish
The one time I actually want "just a little!!!" I get opposite-to-ripped-off and given a whole bag

I know stories like that from Spain. Heard them in abundance. But the only one I know who ever got into trouble with weed was someone who as a teen got imprisoned, pregnant and all, in Spain, for smoking pot.

Hence the "Spain and weed is weird".

And then I know a few Dutch guys who started smoking weed in the USA. As if it would have been too risky doing it at home.

Can they really? I never really trust those laws...
In Spain it is theoretically like that - or was - I just don't know. I heard several stories where cops will take it away from you, just to be dicks about it (and smoke it themselves, the main reason they take it from you to begin with), as well as stories of people actually being arrested and fined for tiny ammounts. Then, I smoked in front of a cop there, who even reported on his walkie-talkie "nah, just some lads getting high here, nothing else."

It just seems... like something that won't quite settle. Except in Netherlands, but even there they are restricting it a bit due to rampant tourism, no?
