This guy influenced the evolution of various music genre that had not yet come to fruition, let alone popularity, during his active years.
Even my seventy eight year old mother knows David Bowie from an appearance with a seventy something Bing Crosby on his televised Christmas special not long before Crosby's death. I can remember watching it and wondering, "why is this cool rocker singing with this ancient fossil?"
It is the epitome of "crossover" as it has become known; generational scaling, from the one to the other and both generations are rewarded from the experience.
