Being somewhat tolerant of pain seems to be the flipside of my unresponsiveness to touch,
which in turn has made it easy for me to be celibate, which in turn has kept me out of trouble.  :zoinks:

Celibate or Asexual?

Just celibate.  I've always had crushes, I just don't get anything out of physical touch, and
therefore am not motivated to seek out relationships.  I suspect the dream is better anyway.  :)

Interesting, I thought to be asexual, one had to be incapable of infatuation, which would disqualify me.  :orly:

I have had plenty of crushes but when it comes down to it, I know what a relationship could lead to and what the other person will eventually want, so I stay single.

Yeah, I understand that.  My inability to get any benefit out of physical contact would be a huge hurdle.  :-\

As I have gotten older (nearly 40) I have become less tolerant about being touched. Holding hands and firm hugs are fine but if anything else is expected I would say no. I have tried sex in different ways in the past and have decided that it just isn't for me.

I'm OK with about a 3-second hug.  If it lingers too much longer, I start to feel trapped.  It isn't a
sensory problem, more a feeling of discomfort at being "taken out of my head," because I live
in my head.  It's as if I live in the attic of a house and people are wandering around on the ground floor
trying to communicate with me, and I'm thinking, "What are you doing down there, I'm up here."
And the longer a hug lingers, the more I feel that my lack of emotional response becomes obvious.  :tard:

Thank you.  I recently read something online that also fits me somewhat: A woman wrote that her
boyfriend has such a mind/body disconnect, it's as if his body is just transportation for his head.

My body is one of my senses. Just like I need my eyes and my ears I need my body to interpret the world. I'm very sensitive, but also have a high pain tolerance to most things. I can feel that things are wrong without noticing pain.

I love hugs. They ground me. But hugs from someone not wanted are horrible or estranging me from the world. It's what I love a lot about meeting my family. The big tight hugs. No claims, nothing else going on, just big hugs. Kind of animal like thing, with us.

I can move both of my ears independently of eachother. I taught myself how to do it as a child.

I can do same with my eyes. Never practiced it; just discovered it one day.

Ocular dominance can go to either eye, but I can roll either one around, top, lower, Right Left, and maintain visual acuity with the one which stays focused.

I generally only do it to freak someone out. I have found no other use for such a talent.
