It takes a lot of guts to even admit you like someone.  And it takes even more than that to actually make the first move.  To walk across the room, and go up to a complete stranger and say, "Hey, I'm interested in you."

But that's exactly what happened to Redditor, Mattim0s, aka Chad, recently at his cousin's wedding.  Chad was approached by a man named Shane.

I was at my cousins wedding reception and had just sat down from dancing. It was nearing the end of the night at this time so I was pretty secluded from everyone. A man walked up to me who I hadn't seen before and nervously said "what's your name?" I replied, "Chad, what's yours?" He said "Shane, I just wanted to let you know that I have noticed you all night. I wanted to leave this with you before I left." He handed me a piece of paper and quickly walked out. It was his number. Without knowing if I was straight or not he had built up the guts to put himself out there. I thought it was extremely brave and I know it's something I wouldn't be able to do. I'm sharing this to remind everyone to live their lives without regrets. Almost all of my regrets come from the things I didn't do, not the things I did. I will be living my life more like this man and I suggest you all do as well. Good night.

I remember a lecturer talking about the regret of action and the regret of inaction. It is mostly the regret of inaction that gets us. There are probably plenty of inspirational speeches out there that tell us to act or else we face regret of inaction. My friend just today sent me a link to such a speech.

I am facing this exact dilemma right now. I'm thinking of just saying to hell with it and just giving this guy at work my number. There's nothing to lose except his comfort around me. He may get weirded out and start avoiding me :-\. I have no idea if he's straight or gay or if he dates full stop.

My first thought when I see posts like this are that I hope someday we do live in a world where we don't feel the need to applaud people for being nice instead of being homophobic pieces of shit.  (It's good that the guy was nice, but that it was remarkable that he was is not great.)

Also when I see reblogged posts about LGBTQ+ relationships and marriages I eagerly await a better future where instead of social justice warriors applauding strangers' wedding photos, we can all just agree that the marriage industrial complex is annoying, marriage is difficult and far more complex than "love," and weddings are usually exercises in narcissism, and go back to only bothering to pretend to be happy for the people we know.

I do not think this was a big deal.
I think most guys would have been embarrassed and just said something like "Ah, no mate, I'm not gay...." and it would have been awkward.
He apparently was not embarrassed and went the whole nine yards in explaining how accepting he was and so on.
But this vision of it being normal that people would be homophobic pieces of shit is not my reality, and I doubt it is yours either Elle.
I2 today is not i2 of yesteryear. It is a knitting circle. Those that participate be they nice or asshats know their place and the price to be there. Odeon is the overlord

.Benevolent if you toe the line.

Think it is I2 of old? Even Odeon is not so delusional as to think otherwise. He may on occasionally pretend otherwise but his base is that knitting circle.

Censoring/banning/restricting/moderating myself, Calanadale & Scrapheap were all not his finest moments.

"Ah, no, I am not in to you" towards someone of the other sex is just as awkward, maybe even more, because then it is aimed at a person, not at the gender.

Some people seem to take that quite hard.

Once there was a girl awkward around me, because someone she trusted had told her I was not 100% straight and that I might fancy her. It scared her.
Told her not to worry, because I wasn't in to her. She felt hurt.  :facepalm2:

He didn't hold him down and beat him with sticks and rocks.  I think we should send him an award.

Congratulations on being a human being  :congrats:

I thought it was sweet and uplifting. I suppose it could be construed as attention getting as well.
