Some people are too centered on their own beliefs, not to accept the legitimacy of other conflict points of view. Black and white thinking. You must belief X and if you do not belief X you are an arsehole. What if you belief in Y? You are an arsehole.

Having said this, black and white thinking is prevalent especially in Autistic communities. (Though I also say that it is a common trait is the extreme or fundamental ideological views - certainly not exclusive communities)

Imagine though someone so ideologically driven OR simply driven by black and white thinking to actually suggest that X likes a flag because of Y but Y does not matter because of Z
X = Southern citizen
Y = thinking the flag is symbolising some positive values such as bravery, independence, courage, unity
Z = Slavery of Africans

I think it is one of the admirable things about people is their ability to rally behind values and find an identity rooted in those strong values and encapsulate that in a symbol or a flag or an idea.
