Maybe I just don't see how she's achieving either without the attention.  Scammers are common, but she's has people's focus, even if it's angry focus.

Well, of course she's achieving it through attention, it's just that the attention is a means, not an end.

You'll notice that she lives off the positive attention and dismisses the negative attention as "harassment" and "threats".

Anita Sarkesesian is a fraud and a con artist. I am not saying this to convey disdain but to correctly identify her.
When she was still in college, a decade ago, she learned about Teleseminars. She started her own business flogging them. Teleseminars for all types of shit.
She attached herself to a coupe of dodgy internet marketers and tele seminar gurus. One of which was an individual called Bart Baggett. He was big on pick up artist courses and neuro-linguistic programming. Basically finding ways to have sex with women and navigate your way around the consent problems one may face.
Ten years on and Bart and the other man that she was promoting and endorsing has gone by way of the Dodo. As has the websites and such that she was attached to. Now in her 30's she has reinvented herself as a Feminist and the man she is now attached to is a rabid Feminist and social agitator. This is her new cause and she is fervent as ever she was about the benefits of Bart the pick up artist. Feminism is her new religion.
