Drug induced psychosis
« on: September 14, 2014, 05:22:00 PM »
So I've just been released from the psychiatric hospital for another episode of psychosis. Now I'm not supposed to be smoking pot but what about that synthetic stuff you get from adult shops? I've been smoking it for the last few weeks straight, and while I'm still on antipsychotics, and on a CTO (community treatment order; I'm an out-patient), I haven't been experiencing psychosis but here's the thing. I don't want to experience the hospital again. If I go back in there, they're likely to give me ECT which I narrowly avoided this time.

I suppose it would be nice to hear a little bit on how the synthetic "weed" mixes with people who're unable to smoke pot due to chemical imbalances of the brain.

I was dx'ed as Psychosis when I was younger.....

I haven't had any episodes with it for awhile. Yet then again I was an 8 year old with an over-active imagination.

ECT= Electric Current Therapy?

Ideally you should stop everything but what they give you.  I would worry about the stuff from adult shops more than weed at least you know exactly what it is and how you react to it.

That crap is 10 times worse than pot. I wouldn't smoke that shit if that's all that there was.

That.

Unfortunately, sometimes smoking pot can trigger psychosis in some people with a pre-disposition for it...synthetic can be way worse.

IF you just can't stay away from it, try to cut your usage down or stick to mid-grade.

Yeah, if you're prone to psychosis, due to smoking pot, it might be best to quit smoking it.

Also, the quality of marijuana and the quantity of THC (and other substances) in it can differ greatly. Some pot has a way higher risk for someone who is sensitive for it than others.

Dunno..

I've never heard of THC induced psychosis. I thought that was a myth from the movie Reefer Madness.

Back then that's all it probably was...a myth. If it was anything like some of the home grown weed I remember, catching a good buzz was a crapshoot. Hell, when we bought "good weed" back then we were probably all smoking that shit sprayed with paraquat.

Just about anything can induce psychosis though...certain prescription meds, alcohol, severe stress, depression, or anxiety, certain illnesses, or even lack of sleep. It's all about the way certain people are wired I guess.

No, hospital is the last thing I want but I don't handle boredom well, I'm afraid.
I worked out the instructions for smoking legal weed, didn't I? ;)

Welcome back.

Electro-convulsive therapy. How old were you when you were dx'd with psychosis?

Don't. Smoke. Them.

Unless you like the hospital, of course.

I smoked marijuana when I was 17 and it made me really paranoid. I thought "they" were coming to get me, whoever "they" were. I checked the locks of all windows and door over and over all night. The effect wore off by morning, thankfully, but I had no sleep.

This told me that I would have fared worse had I kept smoking. Why continue to do something that makes you mentally ill?
