I'm watching a fire on top of a ridgeline get put out by a squadron of firebomber planes and helicopters.   8)

LOL!!  kinda does, doesn't it??  :green:

Those hills are mostly limestone and there isn't a (active) volcano for a few hundred miles of here.

It's a good thing the fire happened at the top of the hill, it didn't spread too far before they got it under control.

Well, deja vu!

Now there's a forrest fire a few miles from here in the opposite direction.

It's near one of the gates to Vandenberg AFB. That's 2 large brush fires in less than a month.























... and NO, I'm not the one setting them!  :smarty:   :finger:

pfft!!  no, but I've seen that plane in person several times. It's a DC-10 and the largest water bomber in the world AFAIK. I also know the engineer who designed the dump valve mechanisms. The nozzles were especially difficult to design because a jet is travelling much faster than a prop plane so standard nozzles simply create a mist. It took several designs before they found one that woud keep the water jet intact as it the air at 200mph.

Why is it red? Some sort of flame retardant?
