Been watching Bomd Films that I downloaded (720p versions from Bluray rips).

Why the fuck would anyone bother ripping Bluray to 720p?

 ::)

Not picking on you, because free shit is ALWAYS good, but WTF!

Mainly because 1080p rips are much larger and take longer to download (not really a problem) and they eat away at my diskspace and internet data allowence quicker.

Also they seem to split 1080p rips into 2 to 3 files and I just know there is going to be a mess trying to re-join them to eliminate the stutter when MediaPortal switches between files while you are playing them.

That seems fucked up!
I did not know they were split!

Hardly seems worth the effort when brand new Bluray disks are only around twenty bucks to start with.  How much closer to FREE does it have to be FFS!   (I know new releases are twenty five to twenty nine bucks, so what!)

Why fuck around with all  that nonsense? Just buy the goddamn things.

Blade Runner, and it's my first time watching it.

Which version?

... not that it matters, but I am a kind of connoisseur of that movie. There are five versions, all of which are cool.

I recently bought the re-hash of that movie, so that I could enjoy the upgraded sound in 3D surround.

:headbang:

I have no clue. It was on Starz Encore, but the movie doesn't even show up on the website. I'm just happy I got to see one version commercial free the whole way through. It was a good movie, but it reminds me of all the special effects I grew up watching as a kid.  I miss movies like Blade Runner where even though the visuals are amazing, you can tell that just as much effort was spent on getting the dialogue and actors right. *Sighs* not like I'm dumb enough to expect it from new fantasy/scifi movies nowadays.
George:I'd say I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not. I excel at not giving a shit. Experience has taught me that interest begets expectation, and expectation beget disappointment, so the key to avoiding disappointment is to avoid interest. A equals B equals C Equals A, or whatever. I also don't have a lot of interest in being a good person or a bad person. From what I can tell, either way, you're screwed. Bad people are punished by society's laws, and good people are punished by Murphy's Law

Ah I see, I guess you didn't realise that Bluray movies cost on average between $40 and $50 each here in Australia. You see it's this thing called 'we get screwed up the ass over here for no reason except we'll take it over prices'. Like the Nintendo Wii costs $400 here and other such nonsense. I get 200GB a month on a 6MB connection, might as well use it for movies and such.

Can't watch 2001 in anything less than 70mm, me.

Is 1080p in 5.1 DD on a 50" plasma acceptable?

hardly

All that grainy shit from film annoys me, perhaps I'm just an ungrateful whippersnapper or something.

There's no grainy shit in a 70mm print. 2001 is nearly flawless. You could stand three feet from a VERY large theatre screen (as a matter of fact, I've done just that while the film was rolling) and not see any grain.

Although as far as 70mm prints are concerned, Ryan's Daughter is even better. It's a crappy film but the image is simply fabulous.

The last film I saw in 70mm was Pink Floyd The Wall nearly 13 years ago. The modern cinema experience has certainly gone downhill considering how much it costs these days.

The Wall was shot in 35mm, unfortunately, so the image quality just wasn't there. Great film, though.

Well there you go, ripped off at every turn. The only other 70mm experience I have is the Tron DVD which was transfered and restored from a 70mm print apparently. Good looking for DVD though.
