In 1976 Swedish authorities started to harass Ingmar Bergman and accusing him of tax fraud. He was actually temporarily arrested. This made him really pissed, so he left Sweden for many years and made films in Germany. I think the German actors are much better than the Swedish ones.

By the way: in his autobiography he writes that after being released from the arrest, he immediately went out to his summerhouse in Gotland, locked the door and loaded his shotgun with the intention to kill any authority person that would show up, if they would try to arrest him again :arrr: Too bad most Swedes don't have that spirit  :thumbdn:

He was an interesting person. I never liked his films, though. I've screened more of them than I care to admit.

Now that I think about it, I'm probably one of the few projectionists to have screened all of his films, and that's including his TV productions.

You know what the first thing was that occurred to me when I heard he had died? Which, incidentally, was on board a ferry from Finland to Sweden.
