What is this weird thing on my back?

Exactly a week ago I discovered a weird thing on my back... it is a large lump (like a monster sized mosquito bite) about 2 inches to the left of my spine.  It was swollen and hard, like a bug bite but much larger, and slightly itchy.








Since that time it has decreased in size by 2/3, but is still visible.  It was and is covered with light red dots.

Could it be a bug bite?  An allergic reaction?  I came into contact with someone's nicotene patch Monday night, could that have caused the reaction? ??? ??? ??? ???


(I took these pictures a few minutes ago, so it was much bigger last week.)

My house is full of spiders, I forgot to mention.  And I do not believe it's a bruise.

My first thought was a tick bite, but I guess it could be the bite of a spider that bit you while you were sleeping.  Even the non venomous spiders have extremely dirty bites, which can become infected.  Have you considered going to the doctor to have it seen and possibly get antibiotics?

It does not look like a bruise to me.

Looks like an infection to me too.  It's probably harmless, especially if it's reducing in size.  Maybe Ozy will know more.

It is not painful but "slightly sore" when I press on it.

I have medical coverage for dr visits but not prescriptions... oh, I hate going to the dr!  I may force myself this friday if it is still there. :/

if it is a spider bite then bad things may happen if you wait that long.  its only monday.

Sounds just like the sore lumps I sometimes get on my nose when I've got a cold and rub it too much.  I think you'll be fine.

i had a thing on the back of my neck for years.

finally they burned it off with liquid nitrogen (i think that's what its called).

it was soooo cold it burned.

My dad was bitten by a spider on his arm while he was getting firewood and it necrotized.  It was probably a brown recluse spider that bit him.  He has a scar that has holes in it even now.

(Yes, I googled spider bite images even though you said not to and it brought back memories.)
