The plane was carrying 440 lbs of lithium ion batteries.

Which they are assuring "posed no problem".

Why are they even shipping shit like this on a passenger plane?

Ever short circuit one of those suckers?  Amazing how fast they can catch fire.

Combined with all that jet fuel. Seriously, WTF...there aren't enough cargo planes for crap like this?  :GA:

One lithium laptop battery is enough to cause some problems it you short it out I can imagine what 440 pounds of them would do.  I'm not sure if they could ship something like that here in the US or the EU

Because it's OK if cargo planes burn and crash. :zoinks:

Yes.  :zoinks:

No, it's not...2 pilots already lost their lives in 2010 carrying a cargo of lithium ion batteries that caught fire.

But at least, like the guy driving the propane truck you know the risks and you're choosing to get paid to take them, the truck is probably equipped with better fire suppression, and you have some training to make sure the load is secured safely...your not carrying a load of passengers strapped to the top of the propane tank without them also knowing the risk or signing a waiver.

Meaning you don't take 200+ unsuspecting people along for the ride. :zombiefuck:

I'm wondering if anyone has looked at Rolls Royces' data on the engines. RR keeps constant tabs on all their (the engines are only leased to the airlines) engines, and often know of any problems before the pilots do.

They could be made by General Electric or Pratt & Whitney, too, I think. :-\

At least it wasn't a 9/11 reference. :zoinks:
