Husband is a ginger. Just the other day he said he saw some study on the tv that gingers have a higher pain tolerance than other people. Not sure if that's true. So maybe they do have souls but they're like fish and just don't have any feelings.

I'm a ginger, and I have a high pain tolerance... I had my wisdom teeth taken out during New Years Eve (not sure if it was 2009 or after that) and I was able to eat two days later.

Are you one of the full body freckle gingers? He's a full body freckle ginger, and that's awesome. When we were young, husband asked me if there was anything I'd change about him. Told him I'd put freckles on his butt. His butt has no freckles because it doesn't get sun. He thought that was really funny. :laugh:

There may be something to that higher pain tolerance. Years ago I had major jaw surgery where they split and broke both sides of my bottom jaw, brought it forward and then put titanium plates in to hold it together. When I woke up the nurses kept trying to get me to press the pain med button because I just didn't. Take home pain medication was only taken for two days and then forgotten about.

Throughout the whole thing I didn't feel any pain, just a bit uncomfortable. Mum joked that I looked like a squirrel storing nuts.:D

The wiki article on red hair mentions the pain tolerance studies, and says they're more sensitive to thermal pain but less sensitive to other types, and the lack of sensitivity is actually due to a gene mutation. It also says redheads need more anesthesia, which is very true for him.

I know that when I had ECT, they told me after the first one that I was going to need a lot more muscle relaxant for the next ones. I agreed with this as I felt as if I had been run over. Really sore all over.
